Volkl Secret 96 Skis
The question Volkl had to answer when they created the current Secret was how to improve the market-leading performance 96mm ski. The answer was to use 4 Radius Drive sidecut to add more ease of use without affecting the renowned grip, power and stability. This Secret 96 is every bit as performance orientated as its predecessor and is now more versatile and even more fun.
Terrain SuitabilityIf you want a go-anywhere performance ski and your focus is on getting away from marked trails, then the Sacret 96 is the answer. This is a real all condition ski, designed to work no matter what the snow, whether bullet proof ice, heavy chopped-up mess or fresh untracked powder. It will tackle any terrain from trails to steep off piste and everything in between. It has the kind of construction that guarantees edge grip for precise skiing on groomed snow, exposed zones and high speeds. The width provides stability and float off piste, working with the construction and Tailored Carbon Tips to produce a feeling of power that is easy to control.
Skier TypeStronger skiers who like a powerful ski for the whole mountain. They’ll demand edge grip and stability, with power when the ski is pushed and, thanks to the Tailored Carbon and Titanal plus the 4 Radius Drive sidecut, the Secret 96 also provides a surprising amount of ease of use.
ShapeThe shape has changed slightly from the previous version with 4mm more on the tip and 2mm on the tail, plus the addition of the 4 Radius Drive which gives an intial short radius then a longer radius at the tip and tail for easy steering and a tighter radius underfot foor improved agility. The relatively short tip and tail taper creates a long effective edge for maxiumum grip.
RockerTip and Tail Rocker uses camber underfoot for excellent grip and response, with tip and tail rocker to aid turn initiation and release.
CoreMultilayer Woodcore. The side wall is laminated to extremely stable layers of wood on the sides of the sandwich core. In combination with a more flexible, lighter wood built into the centre of the sandwich core construction provides numerous advantages. The hardwood part immediately adjacent to the sidewall effects a higher power transmission, improves the edge grip and supports the edge against external forces. The low weight of the softwood part in the middle of the ski brings more agility and manoeuvrability and reduces overall ski weight. The combination of both wood types running through the entire ski length contributes to an optimal distribution of the ski stiffness increasing the steering precision. It is the first and only sidewall/core technology intended for aggressive on-piste and racing use and capable of delivering the victory and defeat, even if it is measured in hundredths of seconds.
ConstructionDirect and strong power transmission with full length sidewalls.
Sizing DescriptionNose level to forehead height is ideal, but longer length is important if there is a bigger rocker or you're spending more time off-piste where the extra stability and float a larger size provides will be beneficial.
